The Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Code for this course. Used when comparing scores to other courses in this same discipline.

Description of Course and Students Students answer several questions about themselves and their perception of the course. These data are reported here for help interpreting your course report. In addition, these variables are used in creating Adjusted Scores. Adjusted scores may raise your score somewhat to account for course factors beyond an instructor's control such as a large class with unmotivated students.

Converted Average Comparisons Converted Average Comparisons are available in several places in your report. Converted Averages are standard scores that allow you to more meaningfully compare scores from one item in the report to another, or one course or instructor to another. They express scores relative to the mean by specifying if a score is in the bottom 10%, lower 20%, middle 40%, higher 20%, and top 10% of scores in the data set.

Comparing your scores to other groups Built into your report is the ability to change which group your scores are being compared to in your Converted Average Comparisons. Which groups are available depends on how your institution has setup your IDEA reports, but you may have access to the entire IDEA database, all courses in the IDEA database in your discipline, or all courses in your institution or department. Toggling between the groups in this dropdown changes which group you are being compared to everywhere there is a Converted Average Comparison in the report.

Click in the box to open the Progress on Relevant Objectives details for individual Learning Objectives.

The Summary score is simply an average of the overall Progress on Relevant Objectives and the Ratings of Summative Questions. It can be used as a general "how did I do" score. But keep in mind that these summative scores should be interpreted in light of circumstances of the course and not as absolutes.

Ratings of Summative Questions Students are asked two "Overall" satisfaction questions on the survey:  "Overall, I rate this instructor an excellent teacher," and "Overall, I rate this course as excellent." This is an average of those two ratings. Click in the box to see the individual question averages.

Adjusted Averages Adjusted Averages are scores that have been adjusted upward in some cases to account for factors beyond the control of an instructor such as a significant number of unmotivated students in a class. This helps level the playing field when comparisons are being made between different courses. You can choose to look at both your Raw or Adjusted Averages by simply toggling between the two with this dropdown.
